Looking Forward

I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year in 2009.  Once in awhile, a year will come along that is a struggle for people, and so it’s a bit of a relief to see it end.  2008 was one of those years for me.  I spent the better part of the [...]

Twitter and New Orleans

First off, let me announce that January will be New Orleans Month at SoloFriendly.com, as I’m headed to New Orleans in a couple of days and will have a lot to report on when I return, I’m sure.
As you may have noticed, I have installed a Twitter widget in the right column of this site [...]

Advice to Travel Companies

I have been keeping a pretty close eye on weather-related travel news this week as I prepare to head to New Orleans on Friday, and obviously, the news this week has been misery heaped upon misery for travelers delayed by perpetual storms across the country.  Obviously, there’s not much anyone can do when Mother Nature [...]

Encore, Encore

Steve Wynn’s Encore celebrated its grand opening last night in Las Vegas. I wish I were there to see it in person.   But since I wasn’t, I’ve been following it in the media, and thought I’d share some links with the rest of you who weren’t there, either.
Here’s a slideshow from the Las Vegas Review [...]

Phone numbers to have on hand

Anyone who flies knows there is always the possibility of a canceled flight that can leave you stranded in a strange city, and/or keep you from getting where you need to go, when you need to be there.  This is the kind of situation that causes people who are normally unflappable to have a complete [...]

Sugarbush

It always warms the cockles of my heart (whatever they are) to see Vermont mentioned in major publications, so I was quite pleased with this spread on Sugarbush ski resort by the New York Times.  It is dated December 21, but was published online on December 19.  I am no longer a skier myself, but [...]

$9 flights?!

Jetblue just announced it is the “official airline of the Boston Red Sox” (Sox fans rejoice!), and to celebrate, they’re offering some out-of-the-park fare sales between Boston and other major league cities nationwide, including $9 flights between Boston and Buffalo and $29 between Boston and New York City.  Check it out at their website.

Snow

I live in Vermont, where winters last about 6 months, so I’m used to experiencing lots of cold and snow every year.  In fact,  my top criteria for vacation destinations these days is “somewhere warm and sunny with no snow”.  So I’ve been flabbergasted over the past week that 2 cities I would be likely [...]

Paws in the Sky

This is just the cutest airline rewards program ever.  Jetblue has introduced the JetPaws program, for jet-setting pets and their people.  When you fly with your dog or cat, you earn two TrueBlue points each way.  At the Jetblue website, you can download a guide of pet-friendly hotels and animal hospitals in some of the [...]

Songs for Solo Travelers

Are you one of those people who likes to listen to music when you travel alone?  I am.  My car’s CD player keeps me awake and alert when I’m driving and my mp3 player keeps me from getting bored while waiting in airports or riding the bus.  I’m adding music to a new mp3 player [...]
