Remember how I’ve said that summer is the best time to travel to Burlington, Vermont (solo or otherwise)? Well, mark your calendars for July, because you will want to be here for this. The Burlington International Waterfront Festival has released its schedule, which includes some fantastic headliners. The Festival itself is being held to commemorate the 400th anniversary of explorer Samuel de Champlain’s arrival on our shores. Jay Craven, the Festival’s producer, has pulled together some top-notch musical entertainment, as well as incorporating free activities, fireworks, a parade, and events celebrating the culture of the region.
I’m most excited by the concerts in Waterfront Park by blues legend Buddy Guy and the combo of Steve Earle and Aimee Mann. They’ve also snagged Vermont’s own Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, the one and only Tony Bennett, and Jimmy Fallon’s house band, the Roots. Let’s just say it’s going to be a great week of music. The Flynn Center is a nice venue, but I can’t think of a better place to listen to live music than Waterfront Park in the summer time, with a light breeze coming off the water, watching the sun set over Lake Champlain. Nice.
Tickets for all but Tony Bennett are on sale now at the Flynn Center.
