Child-free Vacations

One of the things I try to look for when I go on vacation are places where I am likely to run into as few children as possible.  All it takes is one child throwing a temper tantrum to drive away any sense of rest and relaxation I’ve earned on my vacation.  It reminds me too much of the real world, the one I’m trying to forget about during my few days off.  Like hitting the reset button, I have to start all over again to try to relax.  I imagine a child-free vacation sounds like heaven to a few moms and dads out there, too.  Let’s face it, being a good parent is a very rewarding, but very exhausting full-time job.  Is it really a vacation when you bring your work with you?  I think everyone deserves a child-free vacation once in awhile.

So I was pleased to see this Budget Travel article on six vacations that adults can take with little chance of running into children.  Interesting list.  I remember when I first started going to Las Vegas, I thought it would be a child-free destination.  I mean, with so many vices on display–gambling, sex, smoking,  drinking–it was a natural assumption.  Imagine my surprise when I saw lots of parents pushing strollers and dragging tweens around the Strip. I had forgotten that so many of Vegas’s attractions that appealed to me–the tiger, lion, and dolphin habitats, exploding volcanos, a pirate battle–would also appeal to families with children.

Other ways to enjoy a child-free vacation is staying at an all-inclusive adults-only resort.  Among the resort chains that have adults-only resorts are Club Med, Sandals, Breezes, Palace Resorts, and many more.  Here’s a more inclusive list from resortvacationstogo.com.  I understand there are fewer children on long cruises of 2 weeks or more, too.  Of course, you’d best be saving up your money and vacation time if you want to take one of those yourself.  Where do you go for a child-free vacation?

Comments are welcome! Spam is not. Also, I have no problem with disagreement or debate, but please keep comments respectful. Thanks!

We always find children a turn off as well (oddly given our predilection for WDW), but whenever I hear about “adults only” vacations I get nervous about nude beaches and creepy people. Probably the safest bet for us with “child free” vacations is to go someplace like Europe and stick with the non-traditional tourist fare (which we prefer anyway.)

LOL! Well, if it puts your mind at ease, I stayed at an adults-only all-inclusive resort in Mexico, where there was only one person I saw who went topless–but no rampant nudity and no creepy people. As with everything else, though, you’d want to do your research ahead of time!
