Here’s a great excuse to travel to New Orleans soon: Go hear some of the greatest musicians alive today at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, April 24-26 and April 30-May 3 (two consecutive weekends). Who will be playing? Neil Young, Wynton Marsalis, Bon Jovi, the Dave Matthews Band, James Taylor, Tab Benoit, Robert Cray, Better Than Ezra, Tony Bennett, Allen Toussaint, Bonnie Raitt, the Neville Brothers, Emmylou Harris, Marcia Ball, Los Lobos, and many, many more. Man, I wish I were going to be there!
Tickets are $40 through April 23 for weekend 1 and through April 29 for weekend 2, and gate price is $50. There is a JazzFest Express Bus, departing from several locations around the city, to get you to and from the Fair Grounds Race Course (10 minutes from the French Quarter), where the Festival is housed. For more information, including how to purchase tickets, a map of the festival area, and what sorts of food and facilities will be available onsite, go to www.nojazzfest.com.
