Get away from it all

Get away from it all

With the economy looking so shaky right now, your instincts might be telling you to put off your travel plans until the worst of the storm is over. But for a solo traveler with a flexible schedule, any time the travel industry is hurting is the time to hit the road. If you’ve got some money stashed away and a desire to get away from it all in the next few months, you’re in luck. Travel deals are abundant right now.

Starwood is offering a couple of potentially terrific deals on rooms for travel over the next few months.  The first is their Better Tomorrows discount.  For every night you stay at one of their participating hotels, you get the next night at 50% off (offer good through March 31, 2009).

Their other discount, Celebrate The Year You Were Born, is for hotels in the Northeast and Northeastern Canada.  Stay at a participating resort between now and December 30, and on your second or third night, you will pay a rate equal to the year you were born (ex. 1948 = $48).  Not bad.

If a cruise is more your style, and your schedule is flexible, check out the last minute cruise deals at Travelzoo.com.  There are some very affordable discounts being offered.

The Wynn Las Vegas sent me great winter rates on select dates November 2008 – February 2009. In this case, I’m allowed to share it with friends. If you send your name and email address to gray@solofriendly.com, I’ll send you an email postcard with details.  (If you have stayed and played at Wynn before, you can probably get a better deal on your own; but if you’ve never stayed or played there before, this is a great rate.)
