Wildlife at Disney World Photo Blog

by Gray Cargill on August 6, 2009

Are you an animal lover as well as a solo traveler?  Or a nature photographer?  A birder, perhaps?  And maybe you’re not quite ready to take the plunge and go on a photo safari to Africa or alone to Costa Rica. You could always get your feet wet by going to Disney World.  Yes, Disney World. Animal Kingdom at Disney World used to have this saying, that it was “nahtazu” (not a zoo, get it?).  I got a big kick out of that during my first trip to the World back in 2005.  They don’t seem to use this phrase any more; I guess they figure people understand now that it’s not a zoo, and the marketing is no longer needed.  In any case, while it may be true that Animal Kingdom is not a zoo, that doesn’t mean you won’t get up close and personal with wildlife while at Disney World–and not just at Animal Kingdom.  So if you enjoy communing with the fauna during your solo travels (especially birds of all kinds), Disney World might just be for you.  And it’s a great starter trip for a newbie solo traveler.

Here is a photo blog of some of my favorite wildlife photos from my recent trip to Disney.  (If anyone knows birds well enough to identify what some of these are, I’d appreciate it.  I have no clue.)

Disney World is pretty expensive, shaz, but there are strategies for making it attainable. It may take you longer to save your money than others, and there are cheaper ways to visit (like staying off-site or camping at Fort Wilderness). If you have access to a mini-fridge in yoru room (or even a cooler with freezer packs/ice) and can store your own food and eat some meals in your room, that’s cheaper too. If it’s your dream, though, I think it’s a good goal to make happen. Good luck!

I wish I knew, shaz. I’m not a birder. Could be.

That's quite a lot of lovely animal photos. I particularly liked the last one. I'm not sure if I can identify it though.
