What shouldn’t I take with me when I travel?

travel

One of the best decisions a traveler can make is to always stay light. You can’t foresee everything in the world anyway, and a pile of unnecessary items will only take up space in your suitcase. We made a list of things that are better to stay at home.

Laptop
Think about how many times you took your laptop with you when you traveled, and how many times you opened it. And unless it’s a business trip, don’t bring a laptop. A smartphone with a basic set of apps is enough to stay in touch. And if you suddenly decide to write an interesting article for 34travel, believe the experts – a couple of days after the trip your knowledge and impressions will not have time to get rid of.

Mirror camera
Another weighty item you can easily do without if you’re not a professional photographer on a trip. By the way, many pros have long since abandoned massive cameras in favor of a smartphone camera. In order to take a couple of memorable photos and upload them to Instagram, its capabilities are exactly enough. Many people manage to shoot real masterpieces on the phone. Not to mention the fact that there are places on the planet where it’s just not safe to take expensive equipment out of the bag.

Household gadgets (hair dryer, boilers, irons, etc.)
Forget the household stuff: don’t carry a portable hair dryer, a mini-iron (yes, that happens too), a boiling pot with a mug and a pack of tea. Travel is the perfect time to at least temporarily free yourself from worrying about your hair styling or crumpled t-shirt. And a glass of boiling water (if you really need it) is unlikely to be denied to you at any time.

Paper book.
It is doubtful, that even the most inveterate book-lover will read the book, which he brought with him, from cover to cover. At most a couple of pages on the plane or train. All the rest of the time the book will mercilessly occupy space in your backpack and pulling away your shoulder. She will return home unread and crumpled. Have pity on the book and yourself – just download the desired text to your device. For a couple of times to read it will be the most faithful option.

Hygiene products and cosmetics
Carrying a bunch of jars of shampoos and shower gels is one of the most irrational decisions of a traveler. They are large, heavy, and can spill in the suitcase. Any hygiene products are easy to buy locally upon arrival. If you’re pro-ecology and against buying new stuff and groceries all the time – take small jars and transfer your shampoos in there. Then pack them well in bags. This way they will at least take up minimal space in your suitcase.

Umbrella
Add here rubber boots, a warm jacket (if you’re going to a hot country), swimming trunks (if you’re going to the sea, like Greenland), and other things that are 99% not appropriate for the local climate. And forget about “what if it rains, snow” and so on. If it freezes, you buy a raincoat. Expect frost somewhere in Dubai in the high season or the instant melting of glaciers in Norway is not worth it, so things “just in case” are not needed.
